Questions

What in Buffy’s voice and the way she sings helps the message come across?

What do you think is the mood of this song? Why?

What are three words you would use to describe this song?

How did this song change and will keep changing peoples’ perspectives about soldiers and their work?

How did this song change your perspective about yourself? Do you think you are a soldier?

Why do you think Donavan made Buffy’s song so famous? What is different about his version?

  2. Buffy's voice is soothing and sweet, and I can hear the lyrics clearly.

the mood is slow and sad, but if you didn't know it was a sad song, you might not think it was sad because the tune isn't very depressing.

    Inspiring, Pretty, Soldier

    "He’s the universal soldier
And he really is the blame
    But his orders comes from
far away no more." I think this line really sums up the song. the soldier is fighting for everyone, not just for himself.

I don't know if the song changed my perspective about myself, but I really liked what she said about everyone being a soldier.

Donavan's version may have been more famous because Donavan is more popular, or something else.

  3. the emotion helps convey the message

the mood of the song in heartfelt (to me)

    emotional, intriguing and protest

I think that a lot of people will still think of soldiers as cogs in a war machine

I never thought of myself as a soldier but now i think that will always be at the back of my mind

I think that donovan's version made it more accessible to the public

  4. Her voice gives off an almost melancholy feeling. It makes the song seem meaningful.

^^Melancholy. The song first explains the personal life as a soldier, then the impact they have upon society and the world.

    Sad, hopeful, puzzling

I think this song helps people see into the inside life of a soldier as well as the outside image. This is something people need to remember as the world moves forward.

It makes me feel lucky...sort of the opposite of a soldier(though everyone is sort of a soldier in their own way).

I think because Buffy has such an original sound, it was less relate-able to the more close-minded people.
