Buffy Sainte-Marie

Buffy Sainte-Marie was born in Saskatchewan, Canada, in a valley called Qu’Appelle, in the Indian reserve of Piapot Cree. She was born in February 20, 1941 (she is still alive today) and was later on adopted by Albert and Winifred, who raised her in Maine. When born, Buffy used to be called Beverly, but she decided to change it. She was one of the top ten students in her class on the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She graduated on Teaching and Oriental Philosophy.
Right after all the degree earning, Buffy Sainte-Marie decided to change her carrier a little, and started a few tours (in the Sixties) throughout a couple of colleges, reservations, and concert halls in America, where she presented her country folk style. A lot of people were pleasantly surprised by Buffy’s music, because they believed it was going to be a Pocahontas in a country outfit. However, her music had a really emotional feeling, and a beautiful message. The song writer became famous all over the world when she was 24 because of all her tours in Europe, Canada, Australia and Asia. During that time, Buffy won prices, such as the Billboard’s Best New Artist. She had her songs sung by several artists such as Elvis Presley and Cher. Her song The Universal Soldier became famous by Donavan.
All of Buffy’s creativity came from her people back in Piapot Cree. With all the feeling that was put into the song, she influenced people and music in the time. Sainte-Marie is a song writer, guitar player, and a pianist. She even participated on Sesame Street with her son Dakota for more than five years. Her mission was to teach people that there are still Indians in the world, and she accomplished that after the popularity gained because of the show. Buffy Sainte-Marie wrote and recorded 19 albums, and will hopefully write more to inspirer the people in this world!
